After a short ADSL outage on 13 March 2012, I noticed my router requesting the PPP credentials for internet access.
This seemed a little strange at first, but it appears that Optus have done some work on the crappy ADSL sync speeds in my area.
The best sync speed I’d been able to sustain was about 1.4Mbps using Long Reach ADSL2 (AnnexL). In general I’d average 1.1Mbps. The problem with AnnexL is it generally halves your upload bandwidth.
Oddly, I could only use AnnexL in the early morning and late at night, the rest of the time the Modem would default back to the default D.gmt.
During peak times, I would average 80Kbytes/sec. Which is slow, considering the Optus 3G on my Samsung Galaxy S could achieve 200Kbytes/sec during peak time.
However my modem synced at slightly over 2Mbps and has been stable on that for 36 hours.
Here’s the latest speed test:

I can now stream HD videos off Youtube, yay!
